Owen Toyota has relocated into a modern, cutting edge premises in Griffith in regional New South Wales, conveniently coinciding this with a complete upgrade of all technology including the installation of an Endian Unified Threat Management (UTM) System to ensure they had the best security they could find.

Owen Toyota's modern premises located in Griffith NSW
After many years of planning and hard work, Owen Toyota has relocated to their new address, effectively bringing all departments together under one roof. It is a very modern premise and will set the benchmark for rural dealerships, often being likened to a pleasant up market shopping-centre like environment.
According to Owen Toyota’s Managing Director Dean Owen, the aim was to create a relaxed, non threatening environment for the customer as well as a productive working environment for staff.
“We’ve tried to create a warm environment to showcase our vehicles, something like a resort or reception centre, not a bright, sterile hospital feel. It is a place where our customers and our staff feel comfortable and relaxed and can get on with the job” Mr Owen said.
Previously Owen Toyota had a basic software package that handled the security needs of the business. This software proved inefficient with time wasted on regular upgrades to individual terminals; regular patches and fixes resulted in downtime for staff and unnecessary problems for management.
Management at Owen Toyota wanted everything in the new facility to be state of the art, and the best technology they could manage. Along with the new communications room, new IT room, and new computers and plasma screens Owen Toyota required a security device that was robust, easy to manage, efficient, and all-inclusive of antivirus, anti spam, firewall, wireless hotspots, content filtering, and remote access.

“We wanted to start from scratch with our technology, ensuring we had technology that was cutting edge like our new premises. The security device had to reduce our spam levels, protect our network with a good firewall, provide the opportunity to set up wireless hot spots for staff and customers, and allow our staff to have remote access to the network” noted Mr Owen.
Using the knowledge and experience of local corporation Veritech and advice from an independent adviser, Owen Toyota installed the Endian Mercury.
Developed by Italy-based Endian and distributed throughout Australia by Veritech Corporation the Endian device is designed to fulfil the demand of small and medium businesses requiring a comprehensive security solution that offers the highest level of network security.
Unlike the previously used security software, the Endian Mercury is a fully integrated hardware appliance. The device has mirrored drives and automatically maintains back-ups of its configuration. The Endian has built-in reporting which shows how users browse the internet, which sites they visit, and can control allowable sites based on content.
Veritech CEO and Endian distributor Livio Mazzon commented on how the Endian device offers all of the common security functions on the one system, which has the added benefit of lowering the need for training. “Once the administrator has familiarised themselves with the interface and its navigation, all of the various features can be managed easily. This is a simple, but important benefit for operators like Mr Owen who need to spend time managing their business, not just the IT systems. Endian has successfully targeted small businesses that need systems which are rich in function, but easy to manage” commented Mr Mazzon. Since installing the Endian, Owen Toyota has experienced a significant drop in spam and internet-borne viruses. Mr Owen agrees that this has a direct and positive effect on the productivity of his staff. "The decision to move to using the Endian UTM system has proven extremely successful for the Owen Toyota business", said Mr Owen. A further unexpected benefit was the empowerment of remote access using OpenVPN virtual private networking. The Endian includes a built-in OpenVPN end-point server, and Owen Toyota have employed the use of Veritech's Veritoken(tm) VPN token to allow staff to connect back to the office when they are off-site.
“In the past I was spending half of my day, every day dealing with the IT side of the business. Now, I can focus on the core business and rest assured that I have state of the art security in place and great support from Veritech if necessary” commented Mr Owen.
